Season runs 17 July to 7 August 2021
Gary Kliger, having had successful seasons as a director at Nash Theatre in New Farm at the end of 2019 and starry of 2020, returns to CTG with a wonderful dramatic brilliantly written play by the formidable Australian writer Andrew Bovell.
It’s about family, a structure we all live in or endure or have endured and have “escaped”. But can we ever escape the people who have raised us, given us our view on life or made us form a contrary view just to spite them? It’s about the roles of men and women and the expectations placed on each gender by friends, family and upbringing. It’s about gender issues and how we identify or don’t identify with the gender we are born into and the ramifications of those decisions and discoveries. Big themes handled with grace, rhythms in the dialogues and ensemble scenes and individual pieces that provide insight into we as human beings. Gary brings experience to the task of holding up a mirror to ‘Things we all know to be True’.
Contains adult themes and infrequent course language.
