Pygmalion is a play by George Bernard Shaw. It tells the story of Henry Higgins, a professor of phonetics who makes a bet with his friend Colonel Pickering that he can successfully pass off a Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, as a refined society lady by teaching her how to speak with an upper class accent and training her in etiquette. This led to the wonderful movie My Fair Lady.

Roles will be available within the chorus of approximately 6 people, includes roles for Freddy, Clara, and Mr Nepommuck.

The cast we’re looking for are:

Professor Higgins – around 40 ish as a guide. Irascible, egocentric yet can pour on the charm when he needs to very educated upper class English accent

Eliza Doolittle – cockney flower girl anywhere from 20s to early 30s is possible goes from a rough cockney girl living a tough life to an Upper class English lady through the bet Higgins has with Pickering

Colonel Pickering – could be late 50s to 70s Pukkah English gentleman Sanskrit scholar treats women with dignity and decorum no matter their background upper class English accent

Mrs Higgins – mother to Higgins very upper class lady who comes to sympathise with Eliza against her son and his behaviour needs to look like she could be Higgins’ mother so age appropriate is what is needed

Mrs Pearce – housekeeper to Higgins a very moral very kind woman who looks after Higgins as if he were her own child. His confidante as well as his servant. Could be anywhere from 40s to 60s Accent can be a mix of high and lower class English

Mrs Eynsford-Hill – a very comfortable very wealthy high class English lady could be anywhere from 50s to 60s

Freddy Eynsford-Hill – a gormless vapid young upper class man enamoured of Eliza and she has no understanding of the sway she holds on him. Should be a possible match for Eliza age wise but she is superior to him in every way.

Doolittle Senior Eliza’s father. The rascally rag and bone man with the philosophical bent.  Age between 40s and 60s Should look like he could be Eliza’s dad.

There are other minor roles which will be doubled up; street people, flower sellers, bystanders, servants, anywhere there is a group of people they will be needed. We need 6 people ideally 3 men 3 women all sorts of ages various accents needed.
