Written in response to his own adulterous affair with the TV presenter Joan Bakewell, Harold Pinter's anatomy of an affair is an icy masterpiece about love and friendship and betrayal, made all the more brilliant by the cunning way that the story is told backwards over nine years to the evening it all began.
